What we do
We care for injured, sick and abandoned wildlife which will be returned to the wild when the creatures are fit and strong enough to fend for themselves.
HART was formed in 1996 to care for all British wildlife. Our patients come in all shapes and sizes. We are the only wildlife centre of our kind in Hampshire and over the years have earned an excellent reputation for caring for injured wildlife.Though we have the support of a vet, most vets do not receive training in wildlife and without HART's existence many creatures would be unnecessarily put to sleep.
Our funding comes entirely from the generosity of the public for which we are most grateful. Rescue Our patients are most often brought to us by caring members of the public, but we also collect from local vets and take admissions from other animal rescue organisations, including the RSPCA.
The staff of Sun Life Financial of Canada, Basingstoke , adopted us as one of their charities and the money they raised funded our ambulance. This is fully equipped with grabbers and cages, so we can capture and rescue wildlife in distress. Once at the hospital, the casualties are assessed and treated accordingly. RELEASE
Wherever possible, we return our visitors to the wild. Some are reluctant, some hesitant, most don't look back, but it is our work's reward to see them head off into their natural environment, safe in the knowledge that they are fit, healthy, and stand a good chance of survival.
Volunteers
We could not exist without the support and dedication of our volunteers, who take on all manner of tasks from car boot sales to tombolas, making items to sell and dreaming up other fundraising ventures. They also help to transport our patients, foster hedgehogs over winter and assist with the hospital treatment and care of a wide range of creatures.
What YOU can do to help
We always need volunteers, for the day to day care of the sick and injured, collecting casualties and fundraising. If you would like to help, or would like further information about our work please call the hospital on 01256 770438 , or have a look at our web site
