SPRAT AND WINKLE LINE
The Spratt & Winkle Railway Line went from Andover to Southampton. It was a victim cuts made by the good Lord Beeching. An extract from 'Andover to Southampton' by Mitchell and Smith in the County Railway Routes series, says.....
"Following a steady decline in traffic, passenger services between Andover and Southampton were withdrawn on 7th September 1964. The line was closed completely between Kimbridge Junction (north of Romsey) and Andover Town, where freight facilities remained available until 18th September 1967. The track remained in place for over four years after the passage of the last train."
